Although there are probably many reasons why politicians are held in such low esteem, perhaps the most important is that the excessive degree of hypocrisy is not only disturbing, but, for many, it seems disturbing. And even disgusting! Although this behavior is nothing new, it seems to have become much more extreme in recent times. The excessive degree of polarization, in this nation, and the apparent unwillingness and / or inability to seek a meeting of minds, for the common good, combined with extreme partisan politics, and what seems, to be, too many , who consistently seem to put their personal / political agenda above the best interests of the nation, and our citizens, is an inherently dangerous and excessive form of political hypocrisy. With that in mind, this article will briefly attempt to consider, examine, review, and discuss 5 specific examples that we often witness.

1. Budget / deficit / expenditure: Isn’t it hypocritical, for the same politicians, who approved and supported the so-called tax reform, in 2017, that, instead of favoring the middle class (as was the promise, when it was originally presented), they did it? What is the greatest benefit to the richest Americans and the largest corporations? That act alone created roughly a trillion dollar deficit, but the Republicans, who supported this, never mentioned this then! When the pandemic created a set of economic / financial conditions, where a significant stimulus was needed, they had no problem, with potential deficits! Yet now, when Democrats control the Presidency and, by small margins, both Houses of Congress, they are using the dangers of deficit spending to justify their objections to President Biden’s proposals.

two. Political vitriol / rhetoric: In recent memory, few remember someone who resorted to and abused the use of political vitriol and unsubstantiated rhetoric, to the degree of Donald Trump. Even after, according to polls, a significant majority of Americans, the former president, at least partly responsible, for the insurrection, on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, very few Republicans are willing to put, protecting our freedoms and the best interests of the nation, ahead of their perceived personal / political agendas and / or their own interests.

3. Politics versus politics / voting rights: Shouldn’t we protect the right of all eligible Americans to vote freely in our elections? Don’t people deserve to have this right, honor them, consistently and as conveniently as possible? When former President Trump continued to articulate unsubstantiated rhetoric / vitriol about bogus elections and voting irregularities, the courts and other investigations consistently claimed they were inaccurate. Now, we are witnessing a concerted effort to create additional obstacles to voting, because apparently many of these Republicans believe that they benefit when fewer people vote!

Four. Common good, versus personal / political agenda: Shouldn’t our elected officials serve and represent our best interests and those of the country, rather than focusing on their personal / political agenda and / or their own interests? How hypocritical some of these people are, who claim to be representing their constituents, when, on many issues, from health care, economic stimulus, healthy arms measures, etc., they clearly indicate that they are not focused on that. . Or the common good!

5. Healthcare / Medical Insurance / Public Health: The evidence seems to be mounting, clearly indicating that many of the actions that Trump did or did not address created even worse ramifications of this horrific pandemic. Although it is obvious, and surveys state that most people would benefit from better and less expensive health insurance, the costs of prescription drugs and health care in general, as well as improving, in general, the problems / measures / public health policies, many members of the former president’s party, seemed to support him blindly, regardless of the evidence etc!

Even after the Capitol uprising, many Republicans continue, refusing to refute any of the former president’s actions, statements, behavior, etc., and even indicating their continued support for him, and his approach! If this is not hypocrisy, what is?
