Denmark, which borders Germany, is a small country in the north. Denmark is a country with a long and interesting history, it is a kingdom that has been involved in many historical movements throughout the years. On top of that, many kingdoms close to Denmark have strategically tried to invade the country. The other neighbor is Sweden, which is somewhat reminiscent of Denmark, for example, with things like architecture and social behaviors. Both countries are very proud of their traditions and highly value staying in touch with ancient traditions.

The family situation is one of the valuable things that Danes and Swedes cherish. But they like to save it for the special events that happen throughout the year. They can be family weekends or holidays when you have time to spend time together. Because Danes works a lot and in fact it is a big part of daily life in Denmark to keep a busy life.

Danish lifestyle and architecture

When I visited Denmark, I saw many interesting things and many old cities from all over the country, with a touch of romance. What I noticed the most were the beautiful houses in the small towns around the islands. It is very easy to notice and everyone who has ever been to Denmark would know what I mean. I traveled from Germany and drove my motorcycle to a small coastal town in the northeast of the small island called Fyn. When I got to Kerteminde I felt very encouraged, because I could really feel the sensation of being surrounded by the water. The beach went with a long littoral beach area from one site to another. It was a summer vacation or more like a vacation for me, so I would go swimming in the beautiful ocean every day.

My first time in a bed and breakfast

I slept in the Samlingsstuens Bed and Breakfast, which was located in the center of the small town. He had his accommodation inside a listed building, in a courtyard called “Andreasens købmandsgaard”. Here they had nice rooms with beautiful flowers on the table next to my bed, and a nice clean room, which I valued very much.

My schedule told me to stay at Kerteminde for just a few days, but actually I ended up staying there for 5 days. I’m a nature guy myself, so I spent most of my time strolling the beaches and the great forests that were around the area.

The Vikings of Denmark

I also went to the Viking museum, which was about 10 km from Samlingsstuen. He had a meeting of modern Vikings going on. That day I learned a lot about Danish history and culture and even tried some authentic Viking food.

Basically this place was a very well proven place to go with a family, there were many things for the kids to do and learn. But even going there alone, it was really fun.

In the end

I want to share a word that I came across many times during my stay in Denmark. It’s called “hygge” and it’s a unique description of, for example, a familiar conjunction or maybe another way of saying “chill out.” The word is especially related to Denmark and describes very well what the Danes are like.

My regards
