Calicut is the second largest city in Kerala and is also known by the name of Kozhikode. The city has a unique classical antiquity that gives it a distinctive old world charm. The name Kozhikode is derived from the word “koyil” meaning palace and “kota” meaning fort. therefore, the name refers to a “fortified palace”. The commercial heart of the city is located on Mittai Theruvu, which means Sweet Meat Street in English.
