Chinese Authorities Crack Down On Illegal Drug trafficking on the Web

Drug trafficking on the Web

Over the past ten years, the Chinese government has made a significant effort to curb the purchase, manufacture, and sale of Fentanyl, a synthetic opiate. Unfortunately, despite repeated attempts by Chinese authorities to control the sale and manufacture of this highly addictive pain-killing drug, Fentanyl has remained a steady source of profit for those engaged in its distribution. In fact, China’s State Council has labeled Fentanyl “a highly contagious” drug that can cause fatal overdose and death. At the same time, the Chinese government has also sought to restrict the use of Fentanyl by limiting its availability, restricting the amount of drugs that can be imported into China, and warning all Chinese citizens who may have access to Fentanyl to be cautious and avoid using it. All signs point to the Chinese government’s failure to contain and regulate the sales of Fentanyl in China, and its dire prediction that the Fentanyl crisis will soon engulf Asia and other countries as well.

The recent rise in popularity of Chinese counterfeit drugs like Fentanyl is nothing new. But the current levels of Fentanyl availability, as well as the recent increase in frequency of user deaths linked to Fentanyl overdose, has brought the issue of prescription drug abuse and addiction to the forefront of public consciousness. As police departments around the country have begun to take action against the dealers of prescription medications, Chinese counterfeit drugs have also been targeted. In response to this recent trend of dealers targeting Chinese-designed Fentanyl pills, Chinese officials have cracked down on the production and distribution of Fentanyl, arresting dozens of dealers across the nation.

Although Chinese officials have taken various measures to curtail the sale of Fentanyl, it remains difficult to stop the flow of Fentanyl Pill into the black market. As Chinese manufacturers continue to crank out large amounts of Fentanyl, users across the country continue to access the illegal drugs through online venues such as Silk Road 2.0. It is important to note that despite increased law enforcement actions and threats, the sale of Fentanyl is still prevalent throughout China. This means that despite recent government actions and promises to curtail its production, users of Fentanyl are finding ways to acquire the drug on the black market.

Chinese Authorities Crack Down

There have been a number of recent high profile police raids on dealers of Fentanyl and other illicit substances. Some of these operations have resulted in significant quantities of Fentanyl being seized by police agencies. However, despite the fact that such large seizures have increased awareness of the dangers of illegally obtaining Fentanyl and its analogs, it has yet to curb the sale of Fentanyl and other illegal drugs on the dark web. Chinese-designed counterfeit pill capsules are frequently disguised as popular pharmaceuticals, including OxyContin.

In one recent case, police in Guangzhou arrested five suspected dealers of fake drugs. The five suspects were caught after Chinese police began an operation to trace a shipment of fake drugs from Thailand. After tracing the shipment, Chinese police discovered that the drugs had originated in Hong Kong. Once the investigation began, police uncovered a number of further shipments bound for Hong Kong. All of these were bound for users in Hong Kong who were using fake prescription pills.

It is important to remember that even with the arrests of large scale dealers, many users of Fentanyl and other illicit substances are continuing to receive their drugs from the black market. Users are often given false promises of pleasure by unscrupulous dealers that claim to sell regulated pharmaceuticals. Because of this, it is important for citizens to educate themselves about the dangers of using unregistered or fake prescription drugs. Police departments around the country are conducting public information campaigns to inform the public about the prevalence of online drug sales. However, with hundreds of websites for legitimate prescription drugs available on the internet, many people are finding it difficult to know where to turn for information on new and upcoming police department sting operations.
