Dogs – Cats and Children

Most of us can think of living with a cat or a dog. The children get along well together. And with these tips, your dog or cat can be safe around children, and children can avoid behaviors that are bad for the pet.

Most types of dogs and puppies have a good attitude towards children and will put up with a little violence without acting aggressively. However, this is not the case for cats. Particularly with little ones, playing with or picking up the cat or kitten often results in scratches or bites. If you expect visits from young children, you may want to keep them away from each other whenever you can. And if you haven’t made up your mind about a pet for your family, you may need to seriously consider whether a cat is a good fit.

Young children, both in the family and on a visit, should be trained in how to handle their pet. It is important that they are warned that it is not a toy and that it needs sweetness like any other living being. Pulling, pulling, slapping, hitting, or any other unpleasant action should not be tolerated, and it will take some form of discipline to tell the youngster how bad this is.

Especially if your dog or cat is sick, it’s important to keep it away from little ones. Just as we’re irritable and more likely to react when we’re feeling down, your cat or dog needs time away from small children. Your pet needs a chance to heal, and putting her in the middle of a crowd won’t help her. And of course this is smart for any occasion when an animal is sick.

If the little ones are visiting, one way for both the little ones and the pet to play well is to do outdoor activities, such as taking the dog or cat for a jog or run, playing ball, walking the dog when he needs to go out, or others. These activities can also teach young children the importance of caring for a cat or dog.

Involving little ones in the pet’s daily life, grooming, feeding, cleaning, and more will help toddlers develop a closer bond. The result? As the young get closer to the animal, they are much less likely to injure the animal. But, care should be taken with very young children to help them so that the dog or cat receives proper care.

Raising a pet is a great memory for young children. With a little care, it can also be a pleasant period for your pet.
