Interior doors: preparation for the winter season

The days will get colder as winter approaches, so you’re probably taking steps to make sure your family stays warm. Blankets are unpacked, t-shirts and jackets are out of storage, and leg warmers are ready to go. In addition to these winter heaters, it’s also a good idea to check if your home will hold the heat.

As you prepare for winter, if you don’t already have these items in place, you may want to consider them for heat retention in the home.

  • Insulation: Roof insulation can be easily obtained. It is a soft and thick type of spongy substance that is placed on the inside of the ceiling. This layer of insulation will contain the heat inside the house. If you remember your science days in school, you will remember that hot air rises. This hot air usually comes out through the ceiling and roof. It also prevents very cold air from entering the house through the roof and ceiling. It has a double function to keep your house warm.
  • Underfloor heating: can only be used for certain floor surfaces, such as under tiled floors. But check with the provider if you decide on this option. Underfloor heating can only be considered if you are planning to renovate your floors. If you’re renovating tile or laying new flooring, underfloor heating could be an option. This process should be done before laying the tiles.
  • Minimize open spaces – If you have rooms that don’t have doors, you may want to consider adding internal doors. If there is no door leading to a particular room and you turn on the heater, heat could easily escape through that open space. Consider installing an internal door in that room to contain the heat each time you use a space heater. You can opt for a modern internal door or a standard option. Up to you. Seek the advice of a door supplier for guidance if you are not sure what is best. You can also save energy because once it’s hot you can turn off the heater and keep the room warm for a little longer.

Here are three ways you can retain heat in your home and keep your family warm during the winter months. As you research, look for ways to save energy so you don’t spend too much on your heating bill this time.
