Not knowing where to start and how to analyze each room is one of the biggest challenges faced by parents trying to baby-proof their homes. As a professional baby tester, my survey method will help you determine which products might be best suited for your situation. Use the following categories to rate each room one at a time.
1) Barriers – Baby gates as well as additional baby safety locks on other barriers such as gates.
two) Locks and Latches – Devices used to baby proof drawers, cabinets, doors, windows, appliances, toilets and more.
3) accident safety – Furniture safety (such as padding), chimney padding, electrical outlet safety products, and appliance strapping.
4) overall security – Solid doorstops, blind cord clamps, bathroom mats and spout covers, as well as boxes to store soap and chemicals.
5) Organic Security – General safety without products, for example, turning down the water heater to 120 degrees, keeping the kitchen knife block out of reach, and removing crib bumpers and mobiles at the right time.
Now, using the categories above, we can easily determine what baby proofing products are needed for the bathroom.
Barriers – A lock at the top of the door will prevent the baby from entering the bathroom unattended.
Locks and latches – A lock on the toilet lid will prevent the child from accidentally entering the toilet. Lower cabinets and drawers must be closed. If there are windows in the bathroom, they should be locked to prevent the toddler from opening them.
accident safety – Outlets must be of the GFCI type and must be tested for proper operation. No GFCI outlets should have sliding covers attached.
overall security – If the door stopper has a small rubber cap, replace it with a solid door stopper. A non-slip bath mat along with a spout cover will protect against any bumping head issues. Any chemical should be stored in a closed container out of reach of the baby. The trash can should be out of reach or have a locking lid.

As you can see, doing this room by room will not only help organize the process, it will also help you determine what baby proofing products you will need.
