We surveyed 500 random male dog owners and here are the results.

- Heavy duty metal buckles.
- A wider variety of sizes for all dog collars and harnesses, including larger sizes for Mastiffs, Great Danes, Great Pyrenees and other large breeds.
- Durable and breathable dog harnesses with metal closures for hot weather to include your dog in your activities and prevent heat stroke.
- The hands-free dog takes you to exercise and walks with your dog.
Men want male dog collars, harnesses and leashes. They want their pet gear to be no frills and represent their masculinity and make them feel comfortable while with their pet. Dog restraints look like equipment and expect equipment to be sturdy and capable of handling strong, muscular breeds such as Pit Bulls and Dobermans. Guys want good quality when choosing collars and leashes for their dogs with strong material and high strand count because they don’t like to shop and expect to buy once during the dog’s life.
Men look for heavy-duty metal strap buckles on collars, harnesses, and leads. Plastic snaps just won’t do as they can come apart. With enough tugging smaller dogs can unhook a plastic snap. A metal buckle is not going to open up and let your pets loose.
They would like to see more rugged dog gear available in a wider variety of sizes. For those with a preference for larger dog breeds, finding larger sizes should be available for Bull Mastiffs, Great Danes, Great Pyrenees, and other breeds in the 80+ pound weight range.
Our survey showed that men mentioned that during hot weather or those who live in hot weather areas they would like to be able to keep their animals safely restrained but also cool with a strong yet breathable harness to help prevent their dogs from overheating during hot weather. especially when they reside in temperate areas of the world. Or if your activity is especially rough. A product is desired to keep your pets cool.
Guys also wanted hands free dog leashes so they could exercise or walk and have their hands free for water, cell phone or weights. These hands free leashes must meet all of the masculinity criteria above, heavy duty with metal buckles to prevent accidental release while providing this added comfort for the active man and his dog.
We now know what men are looking for when grooming their dogs for walks, hikes, or any activity that involves their dogs. They want “tough” gear that looks like a man’s gear.
