The county’s lawsuit cites documents in which the company acknowledged power lines were a fire hazard when there is dry vegetation underneath them. It also cites the National Weather Service’s warnings on Aug. 6, saying the high winds could cause critical fire conditions in leeward areas.
The lawsuit argues the Defendants put cost-cutting ahead of public safety by failing to heed warnings and implement a system to remove and trim vegetation around power lines in advance of the expected high wind conditions. The lawsuit also cites the Defendants’ failure to properly maintain their power grid, which included not addressing issues such as downed lines and replacing aging poles.
