Why should we care when Jesus was born?

Here we are in the Christmas spirit in 2013 about to celebrate Jesus’ birthday and here come the naysayers. Eighty percent of the nation believes in a Christian God and all we really want to do is celebrate the birth of Christ. The other twenty percent might be offended (Satan worshippers, agnostics, atheists, pagans), but can’t they keep their opinions to themselves? When is it our turn to be offended by what they infer?

the heathens say

The pagan faithful say that December 25 is not the birthday of Christ. It is their belief that Constantine in the past combined it with the winter solstice and Saturnalia festival celebrations. He and his queen had just converted to Christianity and wanted to combine the celebrations. No one knows for sure when Christ was born; it just seemed like a good idea at the time. It should not be a major doctrinal point in the sense that it would threaten his salvation. It doesn’t really matter when he was born or the purpose of his coming changes.

Easter

Like Easter, no one knows for sure when Christ was crucified and rose again. Arguing for the exact date defeats the purpose of why he died, thus diminishing the event. That is exactly what is intended. Diminishing the reason for the season puffs up unbelievers. Taking Christ out of Christmas and making it Christmas is what it’s all about. The problem is that by turning your back on Jesus, he will, in his time of trouble, turn his back on you.

Jeff Foxworthy

Comedian Jeff Foxworthy once said, “We sing about God because we believe in Him. We’re not trying to offend anyone, but the evidence we’ve seen of Him in our little lives trumps your opinion of whether or not He exists.” In fact , there is more evidence that Christ was born and died for our salvation than there is for any of the Roman Caesars. There were more than a million people in Jerusalem for Passover when Christ rose from the dead and walked those streets being seen by the masses. That is why Christianity has endured and spread to this day!

dozens of miracles

There were dozens of miracles of Jesus seen by the masses; the blind could see, the lame could walk, Lazarus was raised from the dead, demons were exorcised, the sick were healed, Jesus walked on water, fed the multitudes, turned water into wine, and filled fishermen’s nets with hundreds of fish! All this was attested to by the witnesses who were there!

deny christ

To deny Christ is to deny the truth of history. Josephus, the famous Jewish historian, quotes Jesus in two passages from Antiquities about him. He wrote about the time of the Gospels adding the value of him as an eyewitness to the true story of Jesus in the region. You just have to read to understand who He was, the belief is up to you.
