Sometimes Two Wong CAN get it right
I have to admit I wasn’t expecting much when we walked in. The restaurant was highly recommended. But, that was a recommendation based on an opinion dated two years ago. BEFORE a change of ownership.
Four of Mee’s presents. Unfortunately, V. Stoogas was unable to join us tonight, but we look forward to dining with him again soon.

When we walked in, there was only one other table occupied. Seems like it’s mainly a take out restaurant. And they do most of their business during lunch hours due to the proximity of Winthrop Hospital just a few blocks away.
We barely walked in, when the other table left. I’m sure it was just a coincidence. Most of the meal we ate in the “solitude” of our own comradeship and good humor. The spirits were accented with some fine BYOB Pinot Grigot (always gets extra Jew Appeal points). They put it on ice for us. Well done!
We let our waiter serve us an authentic Chinese meal, with the only caveat that we wanted spare ribs for an appetizer.
This is what we were served:
- Spare ribs
- chicken with basil
- crispy meat
- Triple Crown
- Pulled Pork with Chives
- Singapore Style Mei Fun Noodles
The spare ribs were out of this world. My personal favorite of all the restaurants we have eaten at! The glaze was fine. Nice mix of sweet and BBQ’ie (I like to make up my own words when actual words just don’t capture the true essence of what I’m trying to describe).
The entree portions were on the small side, and after we completely devoured all four, we were still left wanting more (always a good sign!). So, we ordered the Singapore-style Mei fun noodles (the only dish other than the ribs we personally ordered). We asked it to be a little spicy. And, it was more than a little spicy. The other dishes were on the bland side, but tasty. Especially the Triple Crown. The shrimp in the Triple Crown offering was completely tasteless. The scallops had a nice kick to them and were the best of that deal.
My favorite dish was the crispy beef. Nice and crispy, extremely tasty (similar to pork ribs), but not dry at all. A home-run!
The basil chicken was forgettable. The pulled pork very good. I thought a small portion.
Dinner was topped off with a juicy orange and of course the offering of fortune cookies with our check (reasonably priced. Extra Jewish appeal points).
