Discover the pros and cons of the alkaline diet

Most of us have heard of the alkaline diet. It’s everywhere, and since top Hollywood celebrities endorsed it on different platforms, the popularity of the alkaline diet has increased like never before. Of course, this is not an easy diet, and if you are someone who survives on meat and dairy, this could be even more difficult. However, the alkaline diet is certainly not a fad diet. It is natural, and if you are patient and can put in all the effort necessary, you will lose weight, especially when that is your main goal. In this post, we bring you the dos and don’ts of the alkaline diet. If you’re just getting started and need some initial advice, the tips below are sure to come in handy.

Both:

1. Get a cookbook. You cannot survive or follow the alkaline diet if you continue to eat away from home. There are many well-known cookbooks that make cooking easier when following this diet. Get one of them and start preparing your own meals.

2. Eat foods that promote alkalinity. Most fruits and vegetables are considered great on this diet, so when you organize your plate, these should cover most of it. Also, it can include a lot of lentils, almonds, walnuts, and sprouts.

3. Focus on soy products. Since you can’t eat some of the common dairy products, soy products are your best option. Choose tofu, soy milk, and pepitas, which are easy to cook. You can also have soy drinks that are available in the market.

4. Include vitamin-enriched water. Opt for alkaline water, which supports the diet. Choose a brand that offers a pH score of 9 or higher. Alkaline water has some of the essential vitamins and minerals, which are important for your body.

What should not be done:

1. Avoid alcohol. Yes, you read it right! Alcohol is prohibited on the alkaline diet, so say goodbye to your regular dose of white and red wine. All other drinks, including beers, are also excluded from the list.

2. Cut down on all meats. This includes pork, chicken, beef, and turkey. You need to eat healthy and that does not include any of the red meat. If that’s difficult for you, try skipping some of the red meat, if not the white meat, including the fish.

3. Avoid junk food. Well, chips, nachos, ready-to-eat meals, and all kinds of foods that come from a package are also off-limits. Since you cannot eat cheese, pizzas, hamburgers, and processed foods should be avoided entirely.

Final tips:

Any diet, no matter how effective it is, will not work on its own. You should get at least one hour of physical activity every day. The alkaline diet is certainly effective for losing weight, given that most of the harmful foods are prohibited in your meals, but if you want to achieve sustainable results, you should consider a good training plan. Don’t avoid talking to your dietitian, who can give you some tips and suggestions for following the diet, taking into account your health history.
