Do something great every day!

Do you want to change how you feel right now? Ask yourself, “what can I do well today?” Think about it. What’s the big thing you did today?

Maybe it was a great idea you got from meditating or a newsletter, etc. Maybe you did something to help someone else. Did you contribute to the welfare of another person? Every time you contribute something of your heart and soul to another person and make someone’s life a little better, you end up doing something great and that impacts how you feel. I call it the “profit cycle”… the complete opposite of the “vicious cycle” we all try to avoid.

After you realize you’re doing something great, you may start thinking “what else can I do today that’s great?” That’s the snowball effect of doing great things. You feel better because you have made a contribution to the growth and well-being of another person, which, in turn, has a positive effect on you. Now, he’s tapping into his creative mind and thinking about what other contributions might be great. The answer is in you. It may be some creative effort. Maybe it’s just getting out there and appreciating the wonders of the world and the universe. That depends on you. Use your imagination. Make it happen…

Review your life and make a mental or written list of all the great things you have done and accomplished. Perhaps you have built something fantastic or created a fabulous family and wonderful offspring. Many of us have a tendency to review only the “bad” things that have happened to us. They overshadow the great things we’ve done and end up detracting from our happiness. Give yourself a little credit and watch your mood change for the better.

It is very easy to criticize yourself for your shortcomings and your failures. It is too easy to think that you could have done more and that you are not adequate or good enough. Throw the “Shoudas, Couldas and Wouldas” in the trash. That’s your inner critic speaking. What about his internal collaborator? Don’t forget to make that list.

What did you do yesterday or last week when you did something great and maybe even contributed something to other people and the universe? This is what you can start doing:

  • Check it out and give yourself some credit for it.
  • Stop beating yourself up.
  • Let go of the negativity.
  • It begins to tell you a NEW story. One that is different from the way you have spoken to yourself in the past.

The world is a better place because YOU are in it. It is a better place because you have done great things and tomorrow, the next day, you will do something great and you will recognize it.

YOU ARE YOU! Look at some of your mentors. You admire them because they made great contributions and did great things. You don’t admire those people who have done terrible and questionable things. You admire your heroes because they have done something great. Become your own hero. Do something great right now, this very minute. You can do it.

DO NOT sit idly by waiting for life to come to you. TAKE the initiative and DO something great right now.
