Four Way Interlocking Permanent Steel Roof System for Metal Roofing

Not too long ago, seeing a metal roof in residential areas was the exception rather than the rule. Today it is not uncommon to see multiple metal roofs on the same street. When a person knows what he is looking for, it becomes apparent that the vast majority of these roofs are installed using inferior materials and methods. Not all metal roofing is created equal, but all come at a premium price. Some metal roofs can cost up to 25% less than a premium roof, but will include drawbacks such as exposed fasteners that change color, rust, and may leak; poor quality paint that fades and discolors; wooden strips at risk of rotting in contact with water and not passable. Wood strap roofs are inferior in wind resistance due to the way they are attached directly to the top strap that is attached to the bottom strap that is attached to the roof. Some of these roofs require maintenance. Some companies charge an annual maintenance fee which defeats the premise of why people buy metal roofing.

One might wonder what makes a premium metal roof. All of the best roofs available are four-way interlocking systems where one panel interlocks with the next on all four sides. These roofing systems do not use wood strapping, have no exposed fasteners, and most are walkable.

Various companies claiming to be a four way locking system are simply not truthful, failing to mention that their valleys are not locked and just sit on top hiding the miters and allowing water to slip under. Snow guards are required on metal roofs and most companies buy them from a supplier, they are often plastic which will discolor, weaken and break apart as well as destroying the aesthetics of your home.

When deciding on a metal roof, it is always desirable to deal directly with a manufacturer who will install and take responsibility for the labor and materials. This is extremely important because most roofs come with a fifty year warranty. When dealing with a dealer rather than directly with the manufacturer, the labor portion of the warranty is from the dealer and the material from the manufacturer. If the manufacturer is in another country and the distributor disappears, you basically have a roof with no warranty.

Few people realize the attractive value of their roof. Often the roof is the most important feature facing the street. Putting on the wrong roof can literally destroy the curb appeal of your home. On the other hand, a beautiful roof makes an impressive difference and sets your house apart from other standard houses in the area.
