How to have a secure Facebook account

What is Facebook?

Facebook is considered one of the most famous social networking websites to be found on the internet. Its popularity made online hackers take advantage of any simple user bug, vulnerability, and stupidity they could find to spread their website, virus, worm, or Trojan. Below are some tips to keep in mind when creating your first Facebook account. These tips will ensure that your account is kept safe from spammers and phishers.

1- When creating your Facebook account, make sure to choose a strong password. A strong password contains a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and characters such as $ or #. These types of passwords will make it impossible for a hacker to brute force your account. A brute force attack is an attack in which the hacker uses software that tests passwords found in a text file on his account called a dictionary text file. Now the trick is to make sure that your Facebook password is totally different from any password you use on any other online account, like your email password and website passwords. This way, if your email password is compromised, your Facebook password will remain unknown.

2- When logging into your Facebook account, make sure to use the official Facebook website. Always check that the page you log in from has the official Facebook web domain, which is http://www.Facebook.com. Phishers will usually try to get you to log in from similar Facebook domains, such as Facelook.com or face1book.com. So always keep an eye out. Also, never try to log in from a page received by someone, even a friend. I managed to steal around 120 Facebook accounts just by phishing technique, so be careful not to fall for it.

3- Assign a security question to your account. A security question is the most useful technique that will help you regain access to your Facebook account no matter what. Even if you lose access to your email, you will still have access to your Facebook account if you know the secret question and answer from your Facebook account. You can assign one by going to your account settings.

4- Assign your mobile phone number with your account. If you ever lose access to your Facebook account, you can enter your phone number so Facebook administration can send a verification code to your mobile phone right away.

5- Never accept a friend request from someone you don’t know. The most experienced hackers can hack into a Facebook account they are friends with. So, to be safe, only accept friend requests from people you know.

6- Finally, always make sure you have a good antivirus, with the latest virus definition updates. Also, never underestimate having a good anti-spyware program. Run regular scans and change your password from time to time.

Following the above tips will surely help you keep your Facebook account safe and sound.
