Migraines: They Suck

If you’ve ever had one, then you know they suck. Throbbing pain, pressure in the head, upset stomach, throbbing discomfort…usually debilitating.

I had one yesterday. I had the dubious luck of getting the blinding peripheral vision auras first and I knew what was coming. First I bought myself some ibuprofen, I started drinking water, caffeine and eating chocolate. Second, I ran home from work and grabbed my hot migraine ointment.

This was my first real experiment. A friend told me that she helped her, and while her headache didn’t go away (because, honestly, even modern medicine hasn’t figured that out), her symptoms improved significantly.

He was hot, sweaty and nauseous. I knew I needed to freshen up. I took off my work clothes, opened a few windows and lay down with my eyes closed, but not too tight because it pulls and makes my skull want to explode.

The cap slipped off and I rubbed it along my temples and forehead. It was smooth and didn’t pull, so the first step of the experience was complete. I rubbed firmly along my temple and into my hair and then above my eyebrows. I continued down the sides and bridge of my nose, careful to avoid my eyes; Essential oils will cause a burning sensation.

The relief wasn’t instant, but the combination of ibuprofen and ointment eliminated the throbbing in my temples and behind my eyes. I was happy it worked…

I applied it a few more times as I enjoyed the experience of massaging my sore skull and my symptoms disappeared overnight.

This morning when I woke up I could feel it circling, lurking. I took some more ibuprofen and packed hot and cold ointments for work.

At work, I felt the pain coming, but I was breaking out in a bit of a cold sweat. My hands, feet and nose felt cold. The cold ointment for migraine came out. She did the same massage techniques and it felt great. The aroma of the ointment was also very pleasant and relaxing.

If anyone has had a similar experience or needs guidance on which ointment is best, or just wants to tell me how much migraines suck… Talk to me, I want to hear your voice. I’m not a doctor, I don’t claim to have a cure… I’m just saying what has worked for me.
