Timeless looks for the winter cold

I started my career as a makeup artist over sixteen years ago and in all that time there has never been a drastic change in seasonal makeup from year to year. This is a good thing! Classic color choices and techniques are subtly reinvented each year, inspiring women to create fresh, updated looks for themselves each season.

If you’re like me, you get bored of doing the same thing to your cosmetics all the time. I see winter as a time to get excited again about my makeup regimen. Summer is so lazy and laid back – we look good with little to no effort. But most of us need more help to look our best in the drier winter months. Here are some ways to reinvent your look for winter without a huge investment of time or money:

o Start using the foundation! It’s the foundation of any great makeup application and it doesn’t have to feel like you’re wearing anything. The right foundation will even out blemishes (we all have them during the cold winter months) and protect your skin.

o Consider using a foundation. This product preps skin for flawless foundation application and “buffers” makeup from seeping into the little nooks and crannies of your face. It also keeps a cosmetic application fresh throughout the day! I like to think of it as putty for my face.

o Add some new colors to your face! Save the sheer eyeshadows, baby pink lip glosses, and bronzer for the blush. Choose a beautiful chocolate brown, charcoal gray, deep navy blue, or deep purple for your eyes. Add some eyeliner, which we all tend to put aside during the summer. Switch to a stronger blush. By ‘stronger’ I mean ‘non-invisible’, something to liven up yellowish winter skin tones. And finally, put some color on your lips! Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to wear red or deep purple — a pretty deep pink or a plump neutral can be very flattering. If the thought of going full lipstick scares you, there are plenty of sheer lip shades available. They give lips a sheer, natural stain that is often more moisturizing than traditional lipsticks.

So there you have it. A change of season should really signal some minor changes to your cosmetic routine. I invite you to visit the Scott Miller store and ask for help to choose the colors that best suit you. Remember: makeup comes off! Have fun and play!
