Atco Windsor Electric Cylinder Lawn Mowers Review

There is one feature of a garden that many gardeners still find desirable: stripes on a freshly cut lawn. The sharp lines in the lawn certainly enhance the cascades of flower beds and shrubs.

In the past you had to have a heavy duty gas cylinder lawn mower if you wanted to get that look. With large gardens, there was no other option. Many lawns are much smaller these days, so an Atco Windsor electric cylinder lawn mower can really help. Easy to maneuver, lightweight and quiet to use, you’ll still get a classic striped finish.

Of course, with any walk-behind lawn mower, you need to be vigilant and careful with the power cord. But with a little planning about the exact route you’ll take, this isn’t a big deal. It’s always a good idea to use an RCD (circuit breaker) in case you’re a little careless!

The Atco Windsor is available in two sizes, the 12″ Windsor 12S and the 14S Windsor (14″ as you’d expect!). So the choice is yours, depending on the size of your lawn.

In other respects, the two models are very similar. Both are powered by the same efficient 340-watt motor, which drives the rear roller and 5-blade cutting cylinder that gives a fine finish to the lawn.

Set your preferred cutting speed with a control dial and connect the drive to the rear roller with a handle-mounted, full-width control bar. A safety cut-off switch is equipped for your protection.

The cutting height can be adjusted in 5 steps from 10 to 35mm, which is achieved by turning a substantial control dial on the side of the mower. This can be a tricky job, but it’s easily handled here.

Atco mowers have patented the QX system, where the cutting cylinder is easily swapped out for a scarifier cassette that turns your mower into a motorized grass rake.

The lawn compactor is another good idea as it doubles the capacity and reduces emptying trips.

The 14S has the added benefit of a spring-tine comb that lifts any flattened blades of grass before cutting.

The 12S weighs just 24.5kg (54lbs); the 14S weighs about 3.5 kg (7 lb), so maneuvering shouldn’t be a problem. The handle also folds down for compact storage.

The Atco Windsor is designed to give you years of service and is backed by a 12-month warranty. It is probably the best mower you could choose for a classic striped finish on a small to medium sized lawn.
