Chocolate Covered Habaneros – The perfect gift to be remembered

The perfect fiery and seductively sweet gift for any occasion.

What is? The habanero chili dipped in chocolate. I’ve seen chocolate covered jalapenos, but when you really want your gift recipient to remember you, go the extra mile and make these babies yourself. It’s pretty simple. I’ll walk you through the process and give you a couple of tips.

I’m not usually a fan of off-season store-bought produce, but this is the world we live in and it’s possible to find habaneros in the grocery store year-round. So round up a bag of the best bell peppers, green, orange, red, it doesn’t matter. Get yourself a container of chocolate for dipping. Of those that have to be heated, if it has a little oil that melts better. Look for chocolate made especially for dipping fruit and you’ll have what you need. If you can find dark chocolate much better.

When you’re ready to fix your firecrackers, wash them all, they might not eat them, but you should wash them anyway. And heat the chocolate. It works best if you heat it on medium power in the microwave, stir, and then heat some more.

Dip each bell pepper into the chocolate roll while dipping for complete coverage. At this point either place it on wax paper or hang it from the stem until the chocolate dries, this will give it a better appearance. Using some clothespins on a hanger works great. It only takes a few minutes for the chocolate to dry and once it’s dry you can repeat the process until you’re happy with the result.

The more chocolate, the better. These suckers are going to be hot any way you slice them, so a nice sweet chocolate flavor will be a good clue to burning them. More chocolate also helps lessen the burn, especially if it’s milk chocolate. These fiery crackers will put the hottest sauce to shame.

These will only last a week or so and the habanero will end up breaking down inside the chocolate. So eat fast or throw it away. Make sure the people you’re giving these gifts to realize what they’re getting. Some people have no tolerance for hot sauce and these firecrackers are very hot. Not for the merry. Also make sure the kids in the area don’t mistake them for strawberries, it could be a very painful memorable experience and chances are you won’t be the favorite uncle, brother or whatever anymore.

Have fun with these and be responsible.
