HTC Evo Shift 4G Review

Among all the other smartphones that HTC released last year, the Evo 4G really stood out with its big screen, high performance and support for 4G WiMAX networks. People really loved the device, with overwhelmingly positive reviews, and it posted more sales than any other CDMA phone sold at Sprint in the US.

HTC of course decided to stick with the name and just a week ago launched the new Evo Shift 4G, which is not really a successor to the first Evo as you might have thought, but rather a second model to complement the first and earn more. market share for both HTC and Sprint (at least in the US and Canada).

On the outside: a smaller screen and a great QWERTY keyboard

The new HTC Evo Shift 4G looks like the Evo 4G when you look at it from the front, with the same faceplate design and large round navigation buttons. But that’s where the outward similarities end, because the new smartphone has a new 3.6-inch touch screen and, more importantly, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, the same as the T-Mobile G2, which is the best in smartphones to date.

The screen is pretty good for its size, and with the same 480×800 resolution, it lets you do just about anything you need without a hitch. There are 4 touch-sensitive buttons underneath: the usual Menu, Home, Back, and Search for Android, and there’s still no trackball or pad for navigating documents and web pages. But that’s not a problem anymore, because the hidden QWERTY keyboard under the front has a nice D-pad just for that (and for gaming of course :-). The keys are raised enough for comfortable typing and there is enough space between them for any type of finger.

The Evo Shift 4G is made of very nice materials: the front bezel is a brushed aluminum piece, while the back plate is made of the soft, rubbery plastic that you find on other HTC devices and that makes it look more durable and definitely tougher. to scratches. I think it’s a much better match than the general plastic finish of the Evo 4G.

Inside: Second generation Snapdragon and 512 MB of RAM

The internals have also been upgraded: the new processor gives you more performance at a lower frequency and lower power consumption than the previous model, which is definitely a good thing, while the 512MB of RAM is enough to run even the intensive use of resources. applications at the same time without problems.

Sure enough, you’ll also find the usual support for GPS, Wifi N, WiMAX 802.16e, accelerometer, light sensor, compass, and many other features, which are basically must-haves on every smartphone now. Memory is provided by an external micro SD card: an 8GB one comes in the package, but you can upgrade to 32GB by buying your own card (larger capacity ones will also be available in the near future).

The Evo Shift 4G can definitely be a great smartphone that will complement Sprint’s arsenal and will be sold alongside the Evo 4G, not replace it. The performance and features of the device will definitely find its buyers; plus, you will never have enough QWERTY smartphones available on the market!
