LSAT – 5 More Great Tips for Success

1. The most important meal of the day

Eating a good breakfast will never be more important than on the morning of your LSAT, ever. Make sure you eat a healthy breakfast that will give you energy to stay awake and focus during the exam. Overeating can have the opposite effect and make you tired, and eating unhealthy foods can upset your stomach and distract you. Make sure you use the bathroom before you leave the house too!

2. Forty Winks

Studying is a way of life for many people (I’m looking at you college students), but studying for the LSAT is not a good idea. Staying up all night, drinking energy drinks, hunched over your desk reviewing materials is more likely to lower your score than raise it. Why? Getting a good night’s sleep the night before your exam will help you stay alert and focused during your exam; staying up late, on the other hand, will likely make you groggy and irritable. Cramming practice problem after practice problem until you pass out can also be detrimental. Studies have shown that most people don’t remember things they put in at the last second, so all the work you did in the wee hours of the morning will not only have been wasted, it will likely tire your brain. as well. Start LSAT prep early so you can go to bed (early) the night before feeling confident and calm and wake up refreshed and ready for the test.

3. Out of date late

The LSAT isn’t your cousin’s birthday party, so don’t be late. If you arrive late, they will not let you in. But without fear! If something happens and for some reason you can’t make it to your test center, you will simply be marked “no show”. Of course, you won’t get a refund and will have to pay the full registration fee to schedule another test, but being “no-show” is not a score of 0 and will not be counted in your score reports. Visit the LSAC website for test center arrival time information, and don’t be late!

4. Dress for success

Wear easily adjustable layers on the day of your test. Who knows what the thermostat was set to in the testing room, and the last thing you want is to lose points because your shaky arms left a stray mark on the answer booklet.

5. Play games

For many students, the logic puzzles section of the LSAT is a nightmare. Unlike critical reasoning and reading comprehension, logic games are not something students have been exposed to during the course of their regular education. But logic games, also known as analytical reasoning, are nothing to be afraid of! Be sure to draw clear diagrams that will help you identify relationships between question components and visualize the problem. Just like anything else, all it takes is patience and practice. Logic games may be unfamiliar to you at first, but the more games you play, the better you get and the higher your score!
