Mercedes-Benz to offer SLR McLaren in 2008

German automaker Mercedes-Benz announced its 2008 offering of the SLR McLaren supercar.

With quality Mercedes-branded parts such as Mercedes car headlights, the vehicle radiates the latest Formula 1 technology from the Vodafone-McLaren-Mercedes racing team. The SLR McLarens handling characteristics are provided by the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) materials that included the vehicle. Of course, safety is not an issue here, as Mercedes is known for its excellent safety features.

Due to its fully retractable roof, the SLR McLaren offers an excellent outdoor driving experience that is suitable for everyday use. To reach a top speed of 207 mph, the car is powered by a 617 hp AMG V8 engine with supercharged compressor measuring 5.5 liters.

Since this vehicle has Formula 1 technology, it can be concluded that it is linked to racing cars. The silver arrow in Formula 1 visually represents this link. The ’50s style lives on with this vehicle due to the side racks, side tubes behind the front wheels, and wide opening gull-wing doors.

The SLR is fully designed for maximum performance. It has a refined roofing material, which is available in three different shades. It not only ensures comfortable daily use. It also promises a high-performance sports car with attributes previously only associated with closed cars. In fact, you can still talk to your travel companion at over 120 mph on trips outdoors. And that’s due to the streamlined acoustics.

In less than ten seconds, you’ll experience the semi-automatic roof opening or closing. You simply need to unlock the roof from the windshield frame and lift it up briefly to open the roof. Then it folds electrically. An aluminum cover is installed in its front area so that the roof closes with a lot of class.

The wind tunnel offers excellent levels of handling, aerodynamic acoustics and aerodynamic efficiency. The 2008 McLaren SLR also has the aerodynamic concept found in the SLR coupe. This concept includes an air brake installed in the access cover and a diffuser in the rear bumper. This provides greater downforce on the rear axle.

Still part of the Formula 1 technology found in the 2008 SLR are the high-performance carbon ceramic brake discs for excellent braking performance, and the unique mid-front engine design provides optimal weight distribution. The supercharged compressor which is a 5.5-liter AMG V8 engine has 617 hp and a maximum torque of 575 lb.ft. This is combined with a five-speed AMG Speed shift R automatic transmission that propels the vehicle from zero to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

Mercedes would never destroy its image when it comes to car safety features. Safety is ensured on this vehicle by exclusive carbon fiber crash elements, steel-reinforced A-pillars and two fixed roll bars. Adaptive airbags, side and knee airbags are also included, as well as seat belt tension detectors and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Carbon fiber bucket seats upholstered in semi-aniline leather (which can be individually adapted to the driver and front passenger through various sizes of seat pads), dual-zone automatic air conditioning (which is suitable for the season heat), a premium quality BOSE sound system (for a cool and relaxing drive) and a multi-function sports steering wheel with paddle shifters (adding to the sporty image of the SLR) are the exclusive standard equipment found in the 2008 McLaren SLR.

To be delivered to the US in the fall season this year, the new Mercedes-Benz SLR is built at McLaren’s Formula 1 factory in Woking, England.
