poor old santa claus

Poor old Santa Claus. Sometimes it has a bad reputation. People say he doesn’t represent Christmas well. People say that it is not a good example for Christians who celebrate December 25. And people say, gasp, it doesn’t even exist. Also, there are some people who are trying to confuse who Santa is. Is it really Saint Nicholas? Or is he an impostor, a great elf from the North Pole who wants to take credit for everything he has done and represents Saint Nicholas?

Scary stuff, right? Well, if you’re too upset by these anti-Santa ideas, maybe you should stop reading this article now. It only gets worse the more you delve into these anti-Santa theories.

Are you still with us? Good, because in order to preserve our image of Santa Claus, our jolly old man, we need to know why people are after him. Then, and only then, can we prevent them from destroying the good name of the man in the red suit.

First of all, these anti-Santa people admit that Santa has some really cool qualities. He is always cheerful and happy. He always has fun games and gifts to give, and he’s always generous (unless you’ve been naughty, of course). But this is where these anti-Santa people end with the compliments. You see, they say that Santa Claus, with all his goodness, is only for children and not for adults.

Worse yet, they say that Santa only exists these days to make money for the giant buying syndicates of the East. He’s only here to make money for other people. They say that all that stuff about Santa Claus giving gifts and spreading good cheer is made up. The true purpose of the man with the white beard and the red cap is to make us consume, spend money, give gifts like Santa Claus does.

This is horrible against Santa, right? Well, believe it or not, it gets worse. These anti-Santa people continue to say that Santa cannot be believed because he flies around the world in a sleigh. Obviously, the anti-Santa people have no faith in Rudolph. And speaking of faith, anti-Santa people also say that Santa takes away from the real purpose of Christmas, which is to celebrate Baby Jesus.

You see, these anti-Santa people say that the real Saint Nicholas is better than Santa. He was a real person, they say, who believed and practiced goodwill with all men, women, and children. He was kind and generous, and was a devoted believer in the Child Jesus. And Santa isn’t real, you say?

Did I have enough? Me too. This is how you can tell that these anti-Santa people are very wrong. What these anti-Santa people don’t understand is that Santa and Saint Nicholas are the same. So you can’t say that Saint Nicholas is better than Santa, or that Santa is copying Saint Nicholas’ style. Saint Nicholas is Santa! Together, as one, they represent all that is good about Christmas and all that we should practice every day, not just on December 25.

So please, anti-Santa bashers, please leave the great man alone. He has never done anything but bring Christmas cheer, love for humanity, and lots of fun.
