Sidney Crosby – 10 years from now

A scary thing when you think about how sidney crosby what the race will look like, is how good it looks already! I mean, Sidney Crosby has already beaten Mario Lemieux when it comes to points in his rookie year in the NHL. And Mario Lemieux put up some staggering numbers that only Wayne Gretzky has been able to beat. So when you look at Sidney Crosby, you really have to keep that in mind when you compare Sid the Kid to Gretzky or Lemieux.

Will Sidney Crosby reach 200 points in one season? That’s something that only Wayne Gretzky did in NHL history, he did it four times in the ’80s. Personally, I think as well as Sidney is playing right now, nothing is impossible, especially now that it’s a little more easy to score since the NHL rules changed last year (2005-2006 season).

When you look at Gretzky’s first couple of seasons, he had 137 points in his first year, 164 in his second year and 212 points in his third. That really is very hard for Sidney to beat, but keep in mind that Gretzky played in an era where scores like 6-8, 6-6, 7-4 weren’t unusual. Looking at the league now it’s changed now games usually end in scores like 2-4 3-2 1-3 so what does all this have to do with the question of whether Sidney Crosby can beat remarkable season stats of Gretsky? Well, it just explains how hard it is to get points these days, which means Sidney Crosby will have a much harder time hitting the 200-point plateau. Still, what makes me think he can do it is his incredible first year in the NHL, getting 102 points in today’s NHL is just phenomenal, and then to think he did it on one of the worst teams in the NHL. Also, now that Evengi Malkin has joined the Pittsburgh Penguins, he really helps Sidney put up more points.

I guess Sidney will reach 200 points once in his career, if Evengi Malkin keeps playing Crosby for many years. What do you think, will Sidney do it?
