Tips for Grind dancing

First of all, I want to say that I love to grind dance, and in this article I will try to give you my best tips for grind dancing.

I’ve been grind dancing with girls for about fifteen years, since I was about twelve or thirteen. This is one of the best types of dances to meet girls at a club or dance. It works especially well for those who are shy to go up and talk to the girls, since when you dance, you let your body do the talking. If you get good at grinding, the girls will love your company and won’t mind you dancing with them.

The most important advice I can give you for grinding is to have a good rhythm. Being able to keep up with your feet and hips is key. The goal you want to achieve is to grind with your dance partner to the same rhythm and following the beat of the song. The beat of the song is regulated by the bass. Some R&B songs will have slower beats or tempos, while other Hip Hop songs will have faster tempos. This will force you to change your movement to follow the song.

If you feel like you’re not in a good rhythm, here are some exercises you can do.

1- Every time you hear a song, try to tap your feet, clap your hands, or tap your fingers on a table to the beat. If you do this regularly you will see a difference and be able to keep up more closely.

2- Try to detect the general rhythm of each song and try to move your hips to that rhythm, trying different tempo rhythms will also help you.

Now for the dance part. As I said before, the goal of grind dancing is to dance with a partner, to the same beat and following the rhythm of the song. The girls will turn off if you don’t dance to their beat, as you will make your dancing behind or in front of them awkward. One thing I realized to be good at grind dancing is that you have to dance like the girls do. If you can copy their exact rhythm and movements, then you can move to dance with them and their rhythm will not break and they will appreciate you as a good dancer.

The dance is all in the hips. You will need to be able to move your hips clockwise and counterclockwise to the beat of the song. The shoulders are also important as they will also help you regulate the rhythm of the song, moving your shoulders back and forth or up and down will make your hips move the way you want.

You can practice that on your own at home while listening to music, so you can feel the rhythm. But of course nothing beats actual practice in a club or dancing with girls.

The more advanced moves will be shifting your weight from one leg to the other while moving your hips.

As you dance, you will usually start from the back of the girl. If she’s a stranger, you’ll want to move in slowly, wait and see if the girl stays close to you or moves away from her. If you walk up to her and she stays there, then there’s a good chance she’s ready to dance with you. Approach and dance from behind for about a minute, then move away for a few seconds, to show you’re not all over her, then move back in. Then you’ll want to grab her by her waist and turn her around 180 degrees, to do a bit of a frontal dance routine. Again, stay away from her, dance close to her and then move away from her a bit, that way she doesn’t feel treated and you show her that you know how to dance correctly and with respect.

The thing about grind dancing is that everyone does it, but a lot of people don’t do it well. You don’t want to dance with a girl, humping her like a hungry dog until she gets away from her. The tricks are to dance a bit, walk away, then back, walk away, dance across from each other for a while, then dance together again. It’s all about teasing a bit, giving and then taking away, that’s what makes this dance a real start to a romantic relationship.

Hope this helps and have fun with my dance tips but always with respect.

Thank you
