When it comes to our homes, we want nuisance wildlife to stay away from our properties. But what we don’t want is to harm animals in an attempt to keep them away. Herein lies the problem: some wild animals are too smart for some of our standard tricks. For example, raccoons. So how do you keep ambitious raccoons away?

Fortunately, there are several non-toxic, non-lethal, and perfectly humane methods to keep raccoons off your property. One such method is a simple homemade raccoon repellant that you can make from the comfort of your own kitchen. And you probably already have several of the ingredients since most are common household items. Read on to learn how to make a safe yet effective raccoon repellant that you can spread along the perimeter of your yard to keep raccoons away.

To do:

These smells and sensations are something that raccoons hate, and will stay away from you at the first breath. Therefore, you will prepare a solution containing a selection of the spices, extracts, and homemade peppers mentioned above. It is not necessary to use them all together. Simply select from one category or combine all three for an extra strong solution. You can put all of these items in a clean, empty plastic bottle and manage it around the perimeter of your property. Follow the steps below.

Step by step guide:

Choose your ingredients and combine them in your empty plastic spray bottle. You can buy a spray bottle at any home improvement store for less than $5, or you can clean an old one.

If using fresh bell peppers, wear your protective gloves and dice them. Then transfer them to a bowl and mash them with a spoon until the juices start to flow. Then put the crushed peppers in your spray bottle. Be sure to wash your hands after removing your gloves.

Once your ingredients are in the bottle, fill it with clean tap water. Then fix the top securely.

Put on your eye protection to prevent the solution from getting in your eyes while you spray. If it is a windy day, you should apply the repellent the next day.

Walk around the perimeter of your lawn and spray the solution liberally. Be sure to avoid spraying areas where pets and children play.

If you have any leftovers, spray the solution on areas where you have seen raccoons. And then spray the bottom of your outdoor trash cans.

If your raccoon problem persists, contact a professional wildlife control company for safe raccoon exclusion services.
